For the last four years, I have worked as a producer in the game industry. Even though my title has been Producer, I have been fortunate enough to be on teams where I can wear multiple hats. When I started at Epic, I started on the Special Projects team, a scrappy team where we never had enough people to do the work needed. I often volunteered some of my non-production skills to make UI mockups, storyboard a narrative flow, balance stats, editing a video, or help implement a feature in-engine. I also had the opportunity to work on the Fortnite Creative Mode team where I worked closely mentoring Fortnite Creators, reviewing their feedback on our tools with dev leads, and turning that feedback into actionable plans for features. Over time though, the company kept growing, and there was less opportunity to take on multiple roles. Whenever I saw the opportunity to use my creative skills and make things I would.
As I continued to make things, I realized that I enjoy design more than production. I love taking ideas or plans and turning them into experiences and interactions. My passion for design is so strong that I left my Producer job at Epic to develop those skills through programming/design classes and work on small indie projects. I know what it takes to get creative work from beginning to end on time, and I enjoy the creative problem-solving needed to get there. I am passionate about design and believe in doing what is best for the game, always thinking about the player.
